Before Classes Begin

Housing
You are responsible for securing your own housing and transportation while staying in Seattle. You may stay in UW dormitories, with a host family, or with friends and relatives. For more information, please visit the Housing page.

Medical Insurance
All full-time students should have medical insurance. Proof of medical insurance must be provided on the first day of registration. For more information about medical insurance, please go to the Student Services pages...... »

Classes are located on the University of Washington main campus. The International & English Language Programs administrative offices are located at

Registration and Welcome Reception
We will have a registration and welcome reception on the first day of STEP. You will have a chance to meet all of the new students and our staff.

Welcome Packets
You will receive a welcome packet on the first day. This includes information about the Seattle area.

Campus Tour
Your instructor will take you on a walking tour of the campus. You will see the buildings where your classes will be, the libraries, cafeterias, and other points of interest on the campus.

U-Pass (Bus Pass)
As a STEP student, you can buy a low-cost bus pass. You can ride the buses in and around Seattle, ride the University of Washington Night Shuttle, and get discounts in many local businesses.

No Smoking Policy
Smoking is prohibited in all university facilities, including those in Downtown Seattle. Please read the smoking policies of the University of Washington and of the City of Seattle policy before you come to class.
