Requirements
To enroll in this STEP, you must meet the following requirements:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • have completed high school

Admission
We handle applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Please submit your application materials as early as possible - at least three months before the start date of you program. This will also give you time to get your visa.

Please Note: If you live outside of the US, you will need an F-1 (student) visa to enter the US and study in all STEP courses except for Language and Culture. No I-20s are issued for the Language and Culture STEP.

Follow these steps to apply:
  1. Read this Web site carefully, especially the costs, dates, and refund policies on our Information Sheet.

  2. Download the Application from our Web site or, if you would like an application and brochure mailed to you, e-mail us or call 1-206-543-6242.

  3. Complete and mail the application with:

    • the $50 nonrefundable application fee
    • the $260 nonrefundable deposit
    • $40, if you want to receive your acceptance letter by express delivery—recommended if it less than six weeks before the STEP begins
    • an original letter of financial guarantee or a sponsorship letter, confirming financial support for tuition, fees and all expenses during your time in the program
If you want to fax your application and financial guarantee letter with credit card information for your fees, our fax number is (206) 685-9572. You may then mail the original financial guarantee letter.

It usually takes five business days to process an application. Then, we will send you an acceptance letter and a Visa Eligibility Form (I-20).

  4. Contact the nearest US Embassy or Consulate to schedule an F-1 visa interview appointment.

  5. Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee ($200).

  6. Take your I-20 and supporting documents to the interview.

Please Note: Admission to a Short-term English Program does not mean you are accepted to the University of Washington.
